Getting Started

JaCa-Android 2.0 distribution can be downloaded from here. The zip contains the source code (organised in three Eclipse Android projects) and theĀ .apk related to: (i) the JaCa-Android middleware sources, (ii) a simple JaCa-Android application that allows to install and manage the JaCa-Android middleware on Android devices, (iii) a JaCa-Android application that contains a set of tests, applications samples and performances tests, and (iv) a couple of other utility project.

The distribution includes the following folders:

  • JaCa-Android-Library: This folder contains the Android library project in which are defined the base sources of the JaCa-Android middleware.
    • src: This folder contains the source code of JaCa-Android.
    • lib: This folder contains: (i) the Java libraries (JAR) required by JaCa-Android (ii) the jaca-android.jar containing the JaCa-Android compiled sources.

  • JaCa-Android-Middleware: This folder contains the Eclipse project of the JaCa-Android Middleware manager, a JaCa-Android application used both for installing the middleware and for its management.

  • JaCa-Android-Samples: This folder contains the Eclipse project of the JaCa-Android-Samples, a JaCa-Android application containing a set of tests, examples and performance tests realised for showing the main functionalities of JaCa-Android.

  • doc
    • api: This folder contains the JaCa-Android Java doc.
    • JaCa-Android by examples.pdf: A pdf version of the tutorial also available in this website here.

  • Apk
    • JaCa-Android-Middleware.apk: The apk of the JaCa-Android middleware manager that can be used to install the application on an Android device.

    • JaCa-Android-Samples.apk: The apk of the JaCa-Android samples suite that can be used to install the application on an Android device.

  • utils-projects
    • [JaCa-Android]RemoteWsp: A utility project used for showing how to join and work in workspaces related to others JaCa-Android applications.

      • Sources: The folder contains the source code of the utility project.

      • [JaCa-Android]RemoteWsp.apk: The apk of the JaCa-Android application used for testing the remote join to JaCa-Android workspaces.
    • [JaCa]RemoteWsp: A utility project used for showing how to join and work in workspaces related to remote JaCa applications.

    • TestSmsViewer: The first simple example used in the developer guide.

JaCa-Android has been realised with the aim to provide to developers a middleware able to guarantee a seamless access and management of Android features thanks to artifacts, and to the agents and artifacts interaction model. Indeed, the key part of the middleware is a proper set of artifacts encapsulating the main features provided by Android, allowing agents to access and use the functionalities they need abstracting from low-level implementation details. This artifacts are contained into a shared workspace freely exploitable by any JaCa-Android application once the middleware has been installed on the device. The user can freely manage the functionalities provided by the middleware by properly configurint it. For this purpose a proper middleware management application is provided.
